Average Annual Medical Premium Costs Increased 6%, Says 2008 Benefit Plan Report from C&B Consulting

The report allows employers to compare their employee benefits program against peer organizations and consider the application of best practice strategies to enhance their plan’s performance.

This year’s edition reports that average annual premiums for medical coverage jumped to over $9,000 per employee. Overall, employers experienced an average 10% increase on their most recent medical plan renewals.

“Employers in our regional marketplace are continually searching for new methods to decrease medical costs,” stated James Buonfiglio, President of C&B Consulting. “Our 2008 Report indicates that almost 60% of employers have implemented, or plan to implement, a wellness program. Their hope is that ongoing wellness participation may improve employee health and, consequently, reduce medical premiums.”

C&B’s [2008 Benefit Plan Report] has been compiled from the survey responses of over 270 regional employers and provides insightful information about current benefit issues, emerging trends and employer strategies.
