Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) March 20, 2013
Avenidas Village, a non-profit organization that provides positive aging experiences for seniors in the Bay Area, is introducing ER INFO flash drives. ER INFO flash drives are a new and convenient way to allow seniors to always have their emergency medical records immediately available to first responders and medical personnel in case of an emergency. This information is kept on a small electronic device (a flash drive or thumb drive) and can easily be carried at all times, worn around the neck or on a key chain.
ER INFO was developed by Avenidas Village in response to member requests for a safe and convenient way to carry this info when out and about. For example, one 88 year- old woman liked to take a two-mile walk at night, and wondered about getting the proper medical attention if she fell.
If a senior can’t answer a first responder's questions because they are unconscious or confused, the ER INFO flash drive will have the information that the emergency personnel will need, such as information about medications, medical conditions, allergies and emergency contacts as well as any specific directions such as POLST, DNR, and Advance Health Directives.
“We’d like to publicize this special service for seniors so that more older adults can take advantage of this remarkable life-saving, state-of the-art-program,” states Annie Hagstrom, Avenidas Village liaison to the Palo Alto Medical Foundation.
Avenidas asks for a $5 donation for each flash drive. Members of Moldaw’s Health Committee or Avenidas staff will be able to help seniors get their information stored onto the ER INFO flash drives.
