Author Shares His Adventures As a ‘Yankee Yooper on the Keweenaw’ in new book

About the Author

Dr. Philip J. Howard Jr. was born in Detroit, Mich. and spent his early years growing up in Highland Park, Mich. He attended the Ferris School, followed by Highland Park High School. He attended Bowdoin College before going on to the University of Michigan Medical School. He did his internship and two years of general surgical residency at the University Hospital, Ann Arbor, Michigan and then transferred to the Massachusetts General Hospital for urology training under Wyland Leadbetter, one of the great leaders of the time in the practice of urology.After this training, he worked at The Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts. Worcester became the site of the new University of Massachusetts Medical School and The Memorial Hospital became the teaching hospital to the university. Dr. Howard has maintained a busy clinical practice there and served as a clinical Assistant Professor of Urology for many years up to the present time. Dr. Howard has published 19 research papers and clinical studies. This short memoir, travel log, and Keweenaw description and history is his first book. Dr. Howard has been married to his wife, Joanne, for over 40 years.
