Aurora and Associated Surgical & Medical Specialists Announce Surgery Center Joint Venture

MILWAUKEE, Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Aurora Health Care and Associated Surgical & Medical Specialists, one of the area's premier ambulatory surgery centers, announced today that they have entered into an agreement to have the two organizations jointly operate the surgery center in Franklin.

"This agreement brings together two progressive, innovative provider organizations that will work in partnership to enhance the quality of care for patients," said James Barton, M.D., an otolaryngologist and president of the surgery center. "The goal will be easy access to high-quality, patient-friendly, cost-effective same-day surgery services."

About 80 physicians are partners in the Associated Surgical & Medical Specialists surgery center at 3111 W. Rawson Ave.

"We look forward to this opportunity to combine the talents of some of the region's most dedicated surgeons with Aurora's extensive quality improvement initiatives," said Sue Ela, executive vice president of Aurora Health Care. "Working together, we will be able to deliver greater benefits for patients."

The joint venture will enhance coordination of patient care between the surgery center and nearby Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center. Nearly all of the physician partners in the surgery center are on staff at St. Luke's, which offers the most advanced treatment options in heart care, cancer care, the neurosciences and other areas.

The physicians of Associated Surgical & Medical Specialists offer care in the following specialties: gastroenterology, general surgery, orthopedics, otolaryngology, pain management, radiology and urology.

The Associated Surgical & Medical Specialists surgery center opened in February 2004. At 30,000 square feet, it is the area's largest ambulatory surgery center.
