Hospital is one of first four in nation to receive accreditation

GREEN BAY, Wis., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Aurora BayCare Medical Center is one of the first four hospitals in the country to be accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), administered by the American College of Surgeons. It's the first breast program in Wisconsin to earn this recognition.

"This is an outstanding achievement not only for Aurora BayCare, but for our patients as well," said Dan Meyer, vice president and chief administrative officer of Aurora BayCare. "Residents of Northeastern Wisconsin can be proud knowing that the level of care offered at Aurora BayCare is setting the standard for breast centers across the country."

Aurora BayCare voluntarily participated in a rigorous evaluation and review of its performance. During the survey process, the hospital demonstrated compliance with all of the standards established by the NAPBC for treating patients who are diagnosed with breast disease. The standards include proficiency in the areas of center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement.

Results showed that Aurora BayCare met all of the requirements of the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers' standards in breast care.

"A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation demonstrates a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease," said David P. Winchester, M.D., chair of the NAPBC. "Those fighting breast cancer can be reassured knowing that cancer care experts are at Aurora BayCare."

One of those experts is breast surgeon Colette Salm-Schmid
