Attorneys at Michael D. Ponce & Associates React to a Study Concluding 40 That Nearly Percent of Designated Drivers Consume Alcohol
Date:7/18/2013

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) July 18, 2013

Michael D. Ponce & Associates is a law firm in Tennessee that represents clients who have been injured in car accidents, trucking accidents, pedestrian accidents, bicycle accidents, motorcycle accidents and drunk driving accidents. The attorneys at the firm have recently reviewed a study that was completed by researchers at the University of Florida regarding the percentage of designated drivers who consume alcohol while performing their duties. The attorneys would like to bring awareness to this study, to comment on its results and to urge designated drivers to avoid alcohol.

The study at issue here, entitled, “Breath Alcohol Concentrations of Designated Drivers,” is included in the July 2013 issue of the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs. Researchers tracked and polled over 1,000 bar patrons in and around Gainesville, Florida for a period of three months. What the researchers found was that nearly 40 percent of bar patrons who had been named as designated drivers for that particular evening consumed at least some amount of alcohol.

The study also found that nearly 20 percent of the patrons involved in the study consumed enough alcohol to register at least a 0.05 Blood Alcohol Content level. The legal limit in Florida and in Tennessee stands at 0.08. The Tennessee drunk driving accident lawyers at Michael D. Ponce & Associates are deeply concerned with regards to the findings uncovered in this study and hereby urge anyone who is named as a designated driver to avoid consuming alcohol while fulfilling that important duty.
