Atlantic Partners with Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to Create an Interactive & Educational Waiting Room
Date:9/21/2009

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- For the past 18 months, Atlantic has been partnering with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) in the design and production of a hands-on, interactive exhibit to be installed inside of the emergency waiting room. "The idea was to create an interactive environment that would reduce the anxiety of children with an extended wait in the emergency room," said James Morris, Director of Business Development. "At the onset, I didn't realize that this display would impact so many departments. Our team consisted of designers and production staff from Atlantic, as well as Physicians, EMTs, Nurses and hospital Administrators from CHOP. It was a team effort resulting in a successful project."

The thirty-six foot long exhibit is a series of multiple displays outlining a progressive story about a boy who was injured in a bicycle accident. Through a touch screen, the children are walked through the steps of what to do, and how to dial 911 for assistance. The story continues in the next portion by demonstrating typical items found in an ambulance, and advances through more panels displaying instruments hospital staff may use during the examination. By the end, visitors have learned who to call for help, have become less afraid of what takes place in the ambulance and have both seen and touched standard medical devices.

In his statement at the ribbon cutting ceremony, Doctor Steven Altschuler, President and CEO of Children's Hospital said, "These interactives educate kids about safety, the Hospital, and the city's emergency medical services units. They make learning an exciting adventure -- one that we hope kids will remember long after they leave CHOP."

Dr. Kathy Shaw, Chief of the Division of Emergency Medicine went on to say, "We couldn't have done this without the design team and creative minds at Atlantic Exhibits and Media Matrix and the people from LF Driscoll who put this all together."
