Atlanta LASIK Surgeon Interviewed About Eye Allergy Tips for Spring
Date:4/8/2013

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) April 08, 2013

Dr. Farooq Ashraf, an Atlanta LASIK surgeon and ophthalmologist, was interviewed Monday about tips for allergy sufferers for pollen season. The interview can be found on the LASIK surgeon’s blog and includes tips for preventing and treating eye allergies and their symptoms.

Ashraf says that preventing eye allergies before they arise is the first and most effective step to treating them. “The best thing you can possibly do is to find out what causes your symptoms and avoid it,” he said in his interview. “Dust, pollen, and pet dander are common irritants. Changing the air filters in your house and keeping the windows closed—both on your house and on your car—during days with high pollen counts are good ways to avoid pollen.” Ashraf goes on to say that using high quality air filters and changing them often can prevent a variety of irritants from causing symptoms.

Eye allergies can be hereditary conditions, and about 75 percent of allergy sufferers in the United States have eye allergies. They are caused by allergens in the air that come in contact with our eyes and can cause the following symptoms: itchy eyes, red eyes, and swollen lids. Eye allergies can be treated with prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Eye drops are a common treatment, which Ashraf recommends.

“If you have trouble avoiding the allergen, eye drops can be an effective treatment,” Ashraf added. “They are useful as eyewash, but also come in medicated forms.”

Dr. Ashraf is the founder of the Atlanta Vision Institute and a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in corneal and refractive surgery, as well as other treatments for astigmatism, glaucoma, cataracts, and other eye conditions. He obtained his advanced training in ocular surgery from Johns Hopkins University and has performed over 40,000 LASIK procedures. In addition to the Atlanta Vision Institute, Dr. Ashraf has also founded
