Atlanta Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon Thomas Lintner, MD Renewing Bodies and Spirits for New Moms with a Mommy Makeover
Date:8/4/2009

New mothers often experience difficulty getting their bodies back to their pre-pregnancy figures. Even with rigorous diet and exercise, the physical changes the body goes through during pregnancy can cause excess skin in the midsection, stretch marks, breast sagginess, and an overall tired and aged appearance. One plastic cosmetic surgeon in Atlanta is reaching out to new moms with the Mommy Makeover, an array of cosmetic enhancement options designed to rejuvenate the appearance of women who have recently had children.

(Vocus) August 4, 2009 -- In 2008, over 10.2 million people in the United States had some type of aesthetic enhancement procedure. That’s according to a new study released by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, which indicated a 162 percent increase in surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures since 1997. With women composing 92 percent of that figure, the study reflected breast augmentation and liposuction as the top two surgical enhancement procedures, and BOTOX® injections as the number-one non-surgical treatment. All of these options can be used as part of a ‘Mommy Makeover,’ a new procedure that Dr. Thomas B. Lintner, a plastic cosmetic surgeon in Atlanta, says he is performing more and more. And since Mommy Makeovers involve a number of procedures, Dr. Lintner says the starting point is discussing the patient’s overall goals from the outset. “We encourage patients to come in for a consultation to discuss options with us and see what’s needed, and then plan surgery based on that.”

Although having children can be one of life’s greatest gifts, the physical changes a woman’s body goes through can be difficult to reverse, even with strict dieting and rigorous exercise. Stretch marks, loose excess skin in the breasts and abdomen, and fat pockets in various body areas are common occurrences that can be extremely difficult for women to get rid of after having children. Dr. Lintner’s Atlanta Mommy Makeover procedures target these and other areas in combination, addressing them all at once or over a series of appointments designed to provide a complete aesthetic makeover and restore women’s bodies to their pre-pregnancy figures. Dr. Lintner says although Mommy Makeovers are focused on improving a number of areas, he advises patients to concentrate only on what they feel is truly needed. “As far as body contouring goes, we look at several different options, and we try to fix only what’s broken, so-to-speak.”

In fact, Dr. Lintner emphasizes to his patients that only some procedures may be right for their specific needs, letting them know that nature may take care of some aesthetic issues caused by pregnancy. “Most women, after they deliver, should wait about six months before they come in for a consultation to let their bodies re-adapt so they don’t need as much surgery as they would if they came in right away.”

Patients at Advanced Aesthetic Surgery, Dr. Lintner’s Atlanta plastic cosmetic surgery practice, typically opt for one or more of four main procedures as part of a Mommy Makeover: breast lift; breast augmentation with implants; tummy tuck (abdominoplasty); and/or liposuction. A breast lift addresses excess, drooping skin and fat in the breasts that cause the area to appear misshapen or saggy. Dr. Lintner removes the excess and tightens the area for a more youthful appearance, and can place breast implants to add fullness to the bustline. A tummy tuck targets the most obvious area of change in new moms: the mid-section. Underlying stomach muscles are pushed apart and stretched during pregnancy. A tummy tuck gives the abdomen a flatter, more toned appearance by tightening those muscles, eliminating excess skin, and pulling the remaining skin taut. And liposuction, one of the most popular options in a Mommy Makeover, reduces fat pockets that have accumulated in various body areas over the course of pregnancy and after childbirth. Dr. Lintner also includes a number of non-surgical enhancements such as skin rejuvenation treatments and injectable options to renew and smooth out the skin.

And many patients at Advanced Aesthetic Surgery couldn’t be happier with the results. One new mom who underwent a Mommy Makeover from Dr. Lintner says it was the best thing she could have done for herself. “I am so glad I had the opportunity to have my body back again. I feel great in my clothes, in a bathing suit, and best of all, I feel good about myself. The results were amazing, and very natural.”
