Associated Press Cites Mexico as Example of H1N1 Success

WASHINGTON, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Associated Press praised Mexico's response to the swine flu, or H1N1 outbreak, in a recent article.

The AP article praised the best practices of the Mexican government in the fields of public awareness, rapid diagnosis, treatment and quarantine, and frequent hand-washing and sanitation protocols.

The article noted "Mexico's most effective action -- one now emulated around the world -- was immediately telling its own citizens when the new virus was detected."

Mexico's response to the H1N1 virus was also praised by international public health officials.

"Mexico shared information early and frequently," said Dr. Jon Andrus at the Pan American Health Organization's headquarters in Washington. "Mexico did this at great cost to its economy, but it was the right thing to do."
