Article on Sexual Health Highlights a Lesser-known Benefit of Weight Loss, Notes Dr. Feiz & Associates
Date:5/24/2016

According to an article published May 11th on Fox News Health, a study found that a group of people randomly assigned to reduce the amount of calories they consumed by 25% experienced some interesting health benefits. This group, which ultimately experienced a 12 percent drop in body weight enjoyed better sleep, improved quality of life, and enhanced sexual function compared to the other group, which was allowed to eat whatever it wanted and reported little to no changes in body weight, nor other physical or psychological benefits.

Commenting on this recent article, the Los Angeles based bariatric surgery center, Dr. Feiz & Associates, explains that, because our environment promotes overeating and our bodies’ physiology generally makes dramatic calorie-cutting extremely difficult and unpleasant, these kind of beneficial outcomes s are fairly rare among people struggling with severe obesity who are not being coached in a study by weight loss experts, especially over the long term. The center explains that a great many overweight or severely obese people routinely attempt to lose weight by improving their diet and exercise regimens, but ultimately experience what is known as “yo-yo dieting,” characterized by weight gains that equal or exceed previous losses.

Dr. Feiz & Associates notes that bariatric surgery is scientifically proven to be effective in not only helping people lose excess body weight, but in keeping it off. The bariatric clinic explains some of the most popular procedures among its patients:

  • Gastric sleeve – The sleeve gastrectomy procedure offers a unique two-fold effect. Primarily, the procedure involves removing a large portion of the stomach, which reduces its capacity and causes the patient to feel fuller faster from meals than before. Secondly, this procedure actually curbs the release of the hunger hormone known as ghrelin, which is responsible for those all-too-common hunger pangs that provoke dieters to eat more often and more amounts of food than they intend to, making it easier to stick to calorie-restricted diets
  • The Lap Band – Gastric binding is a procedure performed by many bariatric surgeons to reduce the patient’s stomach capacity to make the prospect of overeating undesirable and uncomfortable. The band can be adjusted by a bariatric surgeon in order to ensure that the patient is meeting their weight loss goals, Dr. Feiz & Associates notes.

With the help of weight loss surgery procedures, a great many patients are able to dramatically improve their physical health and fitness levels on a permanent basis, significantly extending their lives and greatly improving their overall quality of life.
