  • "As many of you who have been working in tobacco control for years know, early in the movement nationwide Arizona was a leader. I believe now we have returned to a place of prominence within the national tobacco control community with our progressive community development approach to partnerships, our policy and implementation work, our marketing efforts - especially our prioritization of youth prevention marketing - and our cessation services."

  • As part of state outreach efforts, the Arizona Smokers' Helpline (ASHLine) supports NCTOH in calling attention to tobacco's impact on public health, and is a partner of the Arizona Department of Health Services Bureau of Tobacco and Chronic Disease. ASHLine offers free telephone and web-based services to all Arizonans who want to quit tobacco at 1 800 55-66-222 or www.ashline.org.

    About Governor Jan Brewer

Janice Brewer became the 22nd person to take the oath of office as Governor of Arizona on January 21, 2009. She is Arizona's fifth Secretary of State to succeed to Governor in mid-term. Jan Brewer has lived in Arizona for 38 years and spent the past 26 of them serving the people and upholding the public trust. There are few, if any, elected officials in Arizona with a broader range of productive experience in public service. Prior to her succession to Governor, she served as Arizona Secretary of State, as Maricopa County Supervisor, and as a highly respected member of both houses of the Arizona Legislature, where she rose to leadership of the State Senate.
