Incensed by Comments That Jillian Michaels Made While Being Interviewed on the Joy Behar Show in January of 2010, Michelle Pearl is Now Using Her New Blog AntiBiggestLoser.com to Tear Apart the Dangerous Messages of the Television Show "The Biggest Loser" and its Bombastic, Outspoken Trainer
(PRWEB) February 14, 2010 -- Michelle Pearl, a self-described “physically imperfect, formerly morbidly obese couch potato”, an American Council on Exercise (A.C.E.®) certified group fitness instructor and owner of the online subscription exercise business Imperfect Fitness, has launched an all-out offensive against the reality television show The Biggest Loser and more specifically the show’s abrasive lead trainer, Jillian Michaels.
Incensed by comments that Michaels made while being interviewed on the Joy Behar Show on CNN’s HLN Network in January of 2010, Pearl is now using her new blog Anti Biggest Loser.com (www.antibiggestloser.com) to tear apart what she feels are the dangerous messages of the television show and its bombastic, outspoken trainer.
On the Behar show Michaels stated that she didn’t think that losing two pounds a week “was necessarily a healthy way to lose weight” and she went on to say that the 2 pound-a-week recommendation was a “myth” that the show, The Biggest Loser, had “debunked” since they had people “losing 10, 15, 20 pound a week”.
Pearl, who has lost over 100 pounds twice in her lifetime, asserts that healthy lifestyle changes which promote slow, steady weight loss are the only true lifelong weapons that are effective against cyclical obesity. On her blog, Pearl states:
“Shows like The Biggest Loser are simply dangerous. Perhaps not so much for the contestants who are on them; they are monitored by more doctors and health care professionals than a sitting president.
“It is the message that The Biggest Loser franchise, which airs in 90 countries and is filmed in 25, gets across to its millions of viewers. Week after week viewers are being given the message that a 15 or 20 pound per week weight loss should be their ultimate goal and that the loss of a pound or two per week is inconsequential. When a contestant on the show has any single digit weight loss, a hush of shame falls over the audience as if it had just been announced that the person had strangled a puppy.”
In addition to being an entrepreneur, Pearl (formerly Michelle Groh-Gordy) is a former award-winning newspaper columnist, having won Society of Professional Journalists awards for writing one of the best features columns in her region of Southern California in 2005 and 2006. Her book titled, “Wake Up!
