Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New Hampshire Associates Pledge More Than $260,000 to Community Organizations

MANCHESTER, N.H., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New Hampshire announced today that its associates have pledged more than $175,000 to support over 220 not-for-profit organizations in 2009 as part of the company's annual Associate Giving Campaign. The Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation will match 50 percent of associate pledges above $50, increasing the total to more than $260,000

"Our associates care deeply about the communities where they live and work across New Hampshire," said Douglas J. Wenners, president, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New Hampshire. "The generosity shown during this year's associate giving campaign shows how much they care. In these challenging economic times, I am truly amazed by their generosity."

Nationwide, associates of Anthem's parent company pledged more than $24 million to more than 9,000 charities.

During 2008, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New Hampshire will have provided more than $500,000 in associate contributions, foundation grants, charitable donations and sponsorships. In New Hampshire, Foundation grants were awarded to Catholic Medical Center's "Meds for Manchester" Program, The New Hampshire Children's Alliance, and the "Healthy Eating, Active Living Program" (part of the Foundation for Healthy Communities).

"New Hampshire's community agencies serve as a vital public safety net for our state's citizens," noted Wenners. "In difficult economic times like this, the role of these agencies is more important than ever before." Among other examples, he cited CMC's "Meds for Manchester" program which provides medications and counseling for those in need across the state.
