Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Colorado and its Foundation Commit $1.6 Million in 2008
Date:2/11/2009

Statewide commitments include $645,000 pledged through Associate Giving Campaign

DENVER, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Colorado has a long history of giving back to the communities where its associates live and work. In 2008, the strong commitment continued through financial support from the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation and the generosity of the company's associates.

Anthem's community efforts for 2008 were highlighted by a $430,000 contribution from its own employees that will support hundreds of community-based non-profit organizations throughout Colorado. Through its annual Associate Giving Campaign, Anthem associates can direct their giving to any 501(c)(3) organization. The funds pledged by Anthem associates will receive a 50 percent match from the parent company's Foundation, increasing the total to more than $645,000.

"Anthem associates are some of the most generous people I've ever met," said John Martie, president, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Colorado. "In these challenging economic times, our associates give from their hearts to Colorado organizations that make a difference for people in need."

Nationwide, associates of Anthem's parent company pledged more than $16 million to nearly 10,000 charities. In addition to the Associate Giving Campaign contribution, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation grants in Colorado in 2008 totaled approximately $830,000, including commitments to:
