Merrillville Community Resource Center teams up with community based organizations and Babies "R" Us to help prepare local moms for the arrival

of their little ones

MERRILLVILLE, Ind., Dec. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- With a traditional theme of pink and blue, local expectant mothers will enjoy a festive afternoon when Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield hosts a community-wide baby shower today for local moms-to-be at the Community Resource Center (CRC) in Merrillville, Indiana.

Coupled with all the makings of a baby shower, mothers-to-be will be treated to valuable educational information from special guests such as registered nurses and perinatal coordinators who will educate mothers on important topics such as nutrition during pregnancy and how to care for their new baby. Joining Anthem will be representatives and speakers from Healthy Start, Healthvisions Midwest, the Women's Center of Northwest Indiana and Methodist Hospitals. Retail chain Babies "R" Us will shower the local moms with special gifts for their babies.

"We know that educating expectant mothers about the importance of staying healthy during their pregnancy is key to helping ensure they have healthy babies," said Taheerah Demby, manager of Anthem's Merrillville CRC. "We want to make these moms feel special today, but we also want to make sure they are armed with information they can use when their baby arrives." Adding to the informative afternoon will be a presentation on the important topic of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). According to the Indiana State Department of Health, SIDS is the third leading cause of death to infants under a year old in the state.
