Announcing the Opening of a New Residential School for Teenage Boys with Autism and ADHD
Date:8/6/2015

Talisman Semesters offers a residential, academic and experiential program for teen boys ages 12-17 with ADHD and Autism. This developmental school helps teens with academic re-engagement, social skill development and independence in an environment where they are accepted, understood and encouraged.

“At our school for teen boys with ADHD, Aspergers, Autism, and other learning disorders, we focus on building academic, social, and independent living skills,” says Linda Tatsapaugh, Co-Owner and Director of Talisman Semesters. “The overall goal of Talisman Semesters is to help students increase their confidence and skills to return home and be successful.”

Students at Talisman Semesters are often disengaged from school and struggling to make or keep friends. The typical Talisman student is easily frustrated, overwhelmed, and may feel isolated. He struggles with transitions, sensory overload, and social interactions. Talisman Semesters provides students with an environment where they can reconnect, rebuild confidence, and develop the academic and social skills they need to achieve their potential.

“Talisman has run summer camps for ADHD and Autism for more than 30 years,” commented Robiyn Mims, Admissions Director at Talisman Semesters. “We are excited to now offer Talisman Semesters, a program that was intentionally created to be small, personalized, and special for our young men in order to help them find success and return home ready to continue that success.”

Many of the students attending Talisman Semesters struggle in a social environment. Talisman Semesters offers a close knit environment of teens struggling with similar issues. To help students develop age-appropriate independent living skills, Talisman Semesters has integrated daily self-management routines throughout the program. “We mix formal social skills sessions with daily practice and mentoring so students can practice immediately what they are learning,” explains John Bates, Program Director of Talisman Semesters.

At Talisman Semesters, re-engaging students academically is a top priority. Talisman Semesters’ experiential curriculum is centered around a new theme each semester. This approach helps engage the students, making the learning more ‘real’,” commented Dave Rollins, Academic Director of Talisman Semesters.

Starting on August 31st, 2015, Talisman Semesters will open its doors to teen boys with ADHD and Autism. Talisman Semester admits teen boys with Autism Level 1, Aspergers Syndrome, ADHD, and learning disorders. Enrollment is limited and closes for the semester on October 2, 2015. Students are encouraged to enroll for two semesters.

Talisman Semesters, located just outside of beautiful Asheville, NC, is a residential autism school for teen boys ages 12-17.
