Angelenos Invited to Tweet Their Feet, Share Their Favorite Footwear for the Walk to End Epilepsy

The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles is rallying the community to put their heels, walking shoes and flip flops on display in a social media campaign supporting the Walk to End Epilepsy on November 17th at the Rose Bowl.

Already, hundreds have taken part in sharing photos of their favorite shoes and the stories behind them. Some examples of the conversation include:

  •     StefRiggs showing support for her son who was diagnosed with epilepsy at 13
  •     Boomer Zoomer, a seizure response dog joining the Walk
  •     Secily Hall sharing her special shoes made for walking

The local Epilepsy Foundation is also sharing photos and stories from some of the 160,000 families in the region affected by epilepsy to help increase the public’s sensitivity to those living with seizures. The public is encouraged to post their shoe photos on the END EPILEPSY Facebook page or by using #sharemyshoes and #walktoendepilepsy on Twitter and Instagram.

“We are inspired by the moving conversation and overwhelming show of support already happening through the Share My Shoes campaign,” Said Susan Pietsch-Escueta, executive director, Epilepsy Foundation Greater L.A. “We look forward to continuing the momentum at the Walk to End Epilepsy on November 17th, where thousands will gather to honor their loved ones and join our quest to find cures.”

Celebrities including Mayim Bialik, Darren Criss, Josh Duhamel, Josh Hutcherson, Carrie Ann Inaba, Lisa Rinna and Alexa Vega are also sharing their shoe photos to help raise awareness of the Walk. Singer Debbie Gibson and Actress Charlotte Ross have donated their autographed shoes as part of a prize drawing for eligible fans who join the #sharemyshoes conversation.

The Walk to End Epilepsy is the premier community event for epilepsies in the greater L.A. region, drawing more than 3,000 walkers. The event features a 5K run/walk and 1-mile stroll, games, live music, food trucks, and epilepsy education including a walk-through brain.

Funds raised support the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles in its mission to connect families, stop seizures and find cures. This includes research, the training of epilepsy specialists, a helpline for families affected, and school and community outreach so everyone knows more about epilepsy and seizure first aid.

Epilepsy affects nearly 3 million people in the U.S. and 65 million worldwide. This year, another 200,000 people in our country will be diagnosed with epilepsy and more people will die from seizure-related causes than from breast cancer
