Americans Urged to Support American Red Cross Disaster Relief Efforts for Hurricanes of 2008
Date:9/22/2008

Donations now accepted through Coinstar Centers(R) at retail locations nationwide

WASHINGTON, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Americans can help the Red Cross provide disaster relief to those affected by the recent hurricanes by donating their coins at the Coinstar Center at grocery stores or other retail locations. Simply select the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund or enter code 7000. These funds enable the Red Cross to provide immediate food, shelter, counseling and other assistance to those in need.

"We are thankful that Coinstar is activating this donation vehicle for the Disaster Relief Fund," said Jeffrey Towers, chief development officer for the American Red Cross. "With the support of Coinstar, the Red Cross continues to help those who are confronting disruptive and devastating circumstances this hurricane season."

Coinstar Inc., a national fundraising partner of the Red Cross, has mobilized its network of retailer-based machines to accept donations in the form of loose coins to aid the victims of disasters. Donations to the Disaster Relief Fund enable the Red Cross to provide victims with the most immediate basic needs. The Red Cross and Coinstar Inc. have partnered in disaster fundraising efforts since 2001. During the response to Hurricane Katrina, Americans donated more than $600,000 through Coinstar Centers.

"In the wake of a disaster it is encouraging to know that communities come together to help their neighbors," said Alex Camara, senior vice president and general manager of worldwide coin, Coinstar, Inc. "The hurricanes have affected thousands of Americans and, as their neighbors, we can make a big difference by donating much needed funds to the American Red Cross."
