American University of Antigua Becomes First International School to Administer Web-Based NBME Exam
Date:12/23/2009

e ease of use of the NBME exam interface our students were able to completely focus on the exam’s content and were not distracted by network latency or exam related confusion. We will continue to exploit our high-speed campus network with NBME web-based and our own Blackboard LMS based exams, study aids and lecture recordings. We believe that applied technology in balance with our traditional lecture series and lab experiences will position our students to realize outstanding academic outcomes and successfully meet their goal of becoming a physician in the United States.”

“While our students completed the most important aspect of this initiative, I would like to extend appreciation to our campus IT team and Antigua Computer Technologies for their hard work in making our vision of a high-speed network and reliable computer based testing a reality.”

Dr. Glasser, AUA Associate Dean of Academic Organization and Professor and Chair of Neuroscience, served as the chief liaison between the NBME and AUA’s faculty proctors. He said, “The faculty involved in administering this exam deserves special recognition; they performed several dry runs to make sure the test ran smoothly. The NBME also deserves considerable thanks for their guidance and support throughout this entire process.”

Peter Bell, AUA Vice President and Executive Dean, added a final note, “As a result of close co-operation between the university and the NBME, AUA is very proud to be the first international medical school to use web-based exams provided by the NBME.”
