American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Proficiency Testing Program Exceeds Audit Expectations
Date:11/29/2016

The American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI), an international society of professionals dedicated to advancing the science, education and application of immunogenetics and transplant immunology, is pleased to announce that its Proficiency Testing (PT) Program has once again passed the College of American Pathologist’s (CAP) on-site audit.

ASHI’s PT program underwent the CAP audit in order to determine compliance with the Laboratory Accreditation Program’s criteria for PT Programs. The CAP determined that ASHI’s PT program has once again met this criteria based on work that ASHI has completed since the last audit in 2013.

“A successful audit of the ASHI PT program by the CAP demonstrates the outstanding efforts of the entire ASHI PT committee to provide the highest quality testing challenges for our participants,” said Dr. John Lunz, former PT Program Director. “The ASHI PT program has an established history of meeting the standards set by the CAP. The findings of the most recent audit reflect this legacy of excellence and show that the committee is continuing to provide the highest level of proficiency challenges.”

This accomplishment validates the high standards the ASHI PT program strives to achieve. ASHI prides itself on the education it provides to its PT participants in that the summary reports are not only statistical, but educational. “The CAP has once again recognized that ASHI’s PT program provides the highest quality proficiency testing in the field of histocompatibility testing,” said current ASHI President, Dr. Michael Gautreaux. “The PT program continues to provide excellent proficiency testing and is always striving to ensure that it meets the never-ending challenges of providing proficiency testing for an ever-changing field.”

Over the past 12 years, the dedication of the volunteer leaders and ASHI staff has been an integral part of the PT program’s success. “The PT program volunteers are easily some of the hardest working people I have encountered,” said ASHI’s Director of Operations, Cecilia Blair. “They are always a pleasure to work with and continue to build a stronger relationship with the CAP as the years go on. I am excited about the bright future of the PT program.”
