Appearances by Dennis W. Archer and Freman Hendrix scheduled
DETROIT, March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Red Cross of Southeastern Michigan is holding the 2008 American Red Cross Hero Awards ceremony, presented by General Motors and OnStar by GM, on Thursday, March 27 at the Somerset Inn in Troy, Mich. from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dennis W. Archer, Red Cross Heroes Honorary Chair, and Freman Hendrix, Red Cross Board Chair, will help to honor the 11 Red Cross Heroes that hail from Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties. Archer will be speaking, Hendrix will be presenting two awards, and Huel Perkins from FOX 2 will serve as the ceremony's emcee.
The 2008 American Red Cross Hero Awards to be presented at the ceremony
are:
-- The Virgil H. Carr Award -- recognizes the contributions of local
business leaders. Troy A. Clarke is the recipient of this award for
his work in leading the Untied Way for Southeastern Michigan's Torch
Drive that brought in over $58 million in 2007.
-- Clara Barton Ambassador Award -- presented to a woman in leadership
both in business and philanthropy who is making outstanding
contributions within southeast Michigan. This year's honoree is Denise
Ilitch for her extensive philanthropic work including the forming of
three foundations.
-- Everyday Bravery Award -- given to a person who acted heroically
without thought or regard to their own safety. Darrin Broadnax of
Detroit is receiving this award for his bravery in saving the lives of
his girlfriend and her four children as their home burned.
-- Neighborhood Friend Award -- recognizes a resident who has had a great
impact on the community. Irma Reyes of Trenton is the recipient this
year for her outstanding work teaching the children of immigrant
mothers while they learn English as a second language.
