Along With Hand Washing and Covering Up When Coughing, Add Nose Washing to Steps Consumers Looking to Take for Flu Prevention
Date:5/4/2009

inuses is a safe and effective way to alleviate sinus pain, reduce congestion, hasten the resolution of rhinitis symptoms and even prevent the recurrence of colds and the flu.

"Nasal washing has shown to be effective in treating the symptoms associated with flu such as sinus pain and congestion," says Diane G. Heatley, M.D., Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine in Madison, where she practices pediatric otolaryngology. "Not only is this beneficial for adults, but it is especially important for children, who can be more affected by flu symptoms and don't have access any longer to OTC pediatric cough and cold medications that were recently voluntarily recalled, following FDA warnings against use of such products with children under 6."

While using a neti pot with young children is not practical and not possible with infants, Dr. Heatley has developed Kids Mist(TM), a spray bottle producing an ultra-fine saline solution mist that is easy to aim and that does not require touching the inside of the nose. Kids Mist also features a proprietary anti-back wash valve that prevents re-contamination.

"It's understandable that consumers are looking to take every step they can to protect themselves from the flu," says Dr. Heatley. "Consumers are familiar with the benefits of nasal washing when they have allergies or a cold, so one would assume that interest with using nasal washing is growing at this time because of that."

Kids Mist(TM) from SinuCleanse(R) (www.sinucleanse.com), the nation's leading manufacturer of neti pots, includes a three week supply of saline solution and is available at drug and mass retail outlets nationwide as is the original SinuCleanse Neti Pot and the SinuCleanse(R) Squeeze(TM).
