CHICAGO, April 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- From the floor of the HIMSS09 Annual Conference & Exhibition, Allscripts today unveiled Allscripts Prenatal, another in a series of new innovations enabling physicians to provide safer, higher quality patient care. Allscripts Prenatal(TM) is the first stand-alone and EHR-integrated Software as a Service (SaaS) solution to address the unique workflow and cross-provider information sharing needs of prenatal care.

Currently, obstetricians must fax patient information between their offices and hospital labor and delivery rooms. Recent studies show that in nearly 40 percent of all cases, the process leaves them without the critical information they need to make clinical decisions. To match the normal workflow of obstetricians, the solution also provides an easy-to-navigate web-based version of the paper forms used today by most physicians providing obstetric care.

"When we saw the Allscripts product with the prenatal form, our providers said 'we need this and we need it now,'" said Igor Kraev, MD, Medical Director of Informatics at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York. "It can be implemented in two hours, takes 20 minutes of training, and I can access the maternity records from anywhere. That's vital for us because when you are delivering babies you can't afford to have clinical information missing. Allscripts Prenatal is a life saver."
