Allegheny Health Network Gastroenterologist Honored by Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America
Date:3/16/2016

Allegheny Health Network (AHN) gastroenterologist Paul Lebovitz, MD, recently was honored for his volunteer service and for providing excellent patient care by the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA).

Dr. Lebovitz, who serves as Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine for AHN, was given The Rosenthal Award for Patient Support and Care at the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s annual dinner on March 3 in Dallas.

The Rosenthal Award is presented to a volunteer who demonstrates uncommon leadership and has contributed in an indisputable way to the quality of life of patients and families through patient service, professional education or advocacy activities.

“CCFA is a volunteer driven organization and we could not achieve great strides in research, patient support and professional education without the contributions of individuals like Dr. Lebovitz,” said Juli Lawrence, Executive Director for CCFA’s western Pennsylvania and West Virginia Chapter.

Dr. Lebovitz has worked with the CCFA’s local chapter for more than 17 years, serving as a member of the board of directors and on various committees. He is a regular speaker at CCFA patient and professional education events and supports the western Pennsylvania/West Virginia Chapter by recruiting volunteers and securing sponsorships.

“It’s my privilege every day to be involved with patients and if I can offer them a glimmer of hope and support, than I feel very blessed to be part of that,” Dr. Lebovitz said. "I’ve had the ability to watch this organization grow and really become such an amazing part of my patients’ lives. I really believe that this organization has become the leader in not only trying to support our patients with this disease, but also to find a cure.”

CCFA’s mission is to cure Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and to improve the quality of life of those affected by these diseases.

Dr. Lebovitz sees patients in the Allegheny Center for Digestive Health, which has a long history of providing advanced, high quality care for patients with disorders of the pancreas, liver, and gastrointestinal tract. Gastroenterologists, hepatologists, colorectal surgeons, bariatric surgeons, gastroenterology nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, dietitians, integrated medicine providers, psychologists and other specialists evaluate and treat patients as a team, resulting in a seamless, personalized care process that meets all of the patient’s needs.
