Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Howard and Terry Francona to Headline David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic

BOSTON, Nov. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- When David Ortiz and his wife, Tiffany Ortiz, announced the inaugural David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic in his native Dominican Republic on December 4th-7th, 2008 -- the biggest names in sports quickly stepped up to the plate. Celebrities participating in the tournament include: David Ortiz and Red Sox teammates: Tim Wakefield, Justin Masterson, Jed Lowrie, Julio Lugo, and Manager Terry Francona. MLB stars, Alex Rodriguez, Mariano Rivera, Miguel Cabrera, Vladimir Guerrero, Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins and Hanley Ramirez will also tee it up, along with sports legends, Bobby Orr, John Havlicek, Luis Tiant, and Jim Rice.

The fund-raising event directly supports the David Ortiz Children's Fund which is dedicated to raising funds for children in New England and the Dominican Republic and providing access to the pediatric care they need to live full and productive lives.

"David's commitment to children is evident in this important work with the children's fund," said Terry Francona, Manager of Boston Red Sox. "David is a team player in every sense of the word and we are proud of his accomplishments."

The Celebrity Classic will be held at Sanctuary Cap Cana, a 176-suite, beachfront resort with spectacular island suite accommodations. The tournament will be played at the Punta Espada Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus signature course and one of Golf Digest's Top 100 Greatest Courses outside the United States.
