Alan Fruzzetti Presents DBT Workshop at Clearview Treatment Programs
Date:10/1/2015

Individuals who are emotionally dysregulated can demonstrate out-of-control behaviors that can severely impact the family unit.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) has been shown in dozens of studies to be effective in treating the many problems associated with emotion dysregulation, and has been adapted by Dr. Alan Fruzzetti for use with families.

On Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, DBT expert Dr. Fruzzetti will offer therapists the tools they need to provide family interventions that can reduce severe dysfunctional individual behavior and improve family relationships in general.

During this workshop, presented by Clearview Treatment Programs and Clearview Women’s Center for Borderline Personality and Emotional Disorders in Los Angeles, Dr. Fruzzetti will teach participants how to do the following:

1    Identify how emotion vulnerability and invalidation transact to create emotion dysregulation in families.

2    Apply key therapist strategies to block dysfunction and manage family sessions when families are severely distressed and/or chaotic.

3    Use blocking, validating, coaching, and skill teaching with family members.

4    Demonstrate specific skills that can be used to help family members regulate emotions and lead to improved understanding, empathy, and validation.

“Helping families can be key in assisting those with emotion dysregulation have healthier relationships and better treatment outcomes,” said Michael Roy, MSW, LCSW, founder and executive director of Clearview Treatment Programs and Clearview Women’s Center. “Dr. Fruzzetti has created a workshop that gives therapists the skills needed to successfully work with complicated family dynamics.”

The workshop is part of Clearview’s Clinical Workshop Series. Proceeds from this workshop go to the National Education Alliance for Borderline Personality Disorder (NEA-BPD) to support their programs.
