Air Force to Install Fieldturf at Falcon Field
Date:6/17/2009

The United States Air Force Academy will install FieldTurf at Falcon Field, it was jointly announced today by Air Force Director of Athletics Dr. Hans Mueh and FieldTurf CEO Joe Fields.

USAFA, CO (Vocus) June 17, 2009 -- The United States Air Force Academy will install FieldTurf at Falcon Field, it was jointly announced today by Air Force Director of Athletics Dr. Hans Mueh and FieldTurf CEO Joe Fields. The new turf is currently being manufactured with the installation scheduled to begin later this month.

Falcon Field is one of the top baseball facilities in the west, and it has earned national recognition by twice being the home of the United States Olympic Festival. The new FieldTurf will cover both the infield and outfield, and will replace Falcon Field's current Sport Turf, which had been installed in 2004 but on the infield only.

"We are very excited about having FieldTurf as our source of playing surface for the years to come," said Falcons Head Baseball Coach Mike Hutcheon. "It will be a major step in improving our program and our facility. Adding this facelift to our stadium will ensure our chances to play and practice in any type of weather condition, and that is a huge deal in Colorado. I also feel it will be a major selling point in all of our recruiting efforts in getting the best student/athletes in the country. Another big plus will be the low maintenance of getting our field ready for practice and games compared to all the raking, mowing and tamping that used to go on."

"We are most certainly thrilled that the Air Force Academy has selected FieldTurf for installation at Falcon Field," said Fields. "While lots of folks know about FieldTurf from our football product, the reality is that our baseball fields are the finest to be found anywhere. Every Major League team that currently plays its game on artificial turf plays on FieldTurf, and we are very proud of that fact. Our collegiate baseball installations are growing rapidly, and it is important to FieldTurf to continue to be at the forefront in the ongoing rapid growth of college baseball."

Falcon Field is one of the most unique college baseball facilities in the nation as it sits 7,000+ feet over sea level. Set against the Rampart Range of the Rocky Mountains, Falcon Field has been the home of Air Force baseball since 1957.

Major League Baseball's Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota Twins and Toronto Blue Jays play their homes games on FieldTurf. Last fall, for the first time ever, the World Series was played on FieldTurf when the Rays hosted the Philadelphia Phillies at Tropicana Field for baseball's showcase event.

FieldTurf offers industry leading engineering and manufacturing resources, unparalleled leasing and financing capabilities and leads the synthetic turf industry with regard to setting higher environmental standards. FieldTurf is the global market leader in terms of synthetic sports fields with over 3000 fields installed. Additionally, FieldTurf has attained over 12,000 satisfied customers in high quality pet, residential, commercial and municipal landscaping solutions, playground surfacing and has a complete range of golf and tennis products.
