Aid in Recovery Comments on Effectiveness of Topiramate for Treating Cocaine Addiction
Date:1/1/2014

west palm beach florida (PRWEB) January 01, 2014

Aid in Recovery released a statement today commenting on a new study that examined the effectiveness of Topiramate, a pharmaceutical used to treat migraines and seizures, in treating cocaine and alcohol addiction.

The study (Topiramate for the Treatment of Cocaine Addiction: A Randomized Clinical Trial, December 2013) was authored by a group of 8 scholars and scientists from prestigious universities around the US, and used a randomized clinical trial to examine Topiramate as a possible treatment option for cocaine and alcohol addiction.

After several rounds of double-blind, randomized, and placebo-controlled testing, the study found that Topiramate was more effective than placebo reducing cocaine use-days and increasing associated measures of clinical improvement among individuals suffering from cocaine addiction.

“We at Aid in Recovery are encouraged by these results,” said Dr. Michael Lukens a psychologist at Aid in Recovery. “Cocaine and alcohol addiction is rampant in our society, and as treatment professionals we can use all the help we can get in treating this disease. We pride ourselves on staying on the cutting edge of drug treatment for all types of addiction.”

Aid in Recovery will continue to monitor the use of Topiramate as it goes through more clinical trials on its way towards being approved for use in addiction treatment.

About Us

Aid in Recovery is a premier drug and alcohol treatment center. Our approach is defined by recognizing each clients need for a personalized drug and alcohol treatment program. We aren't a hospital-like institution and there’s a good reason for that. We believe that treating each client as an individual is crucial to delivering the best possible patient care. At a busy clinic-like program, it simply isn't possible for a therapist to truly get to know each client and understand their specific needs. To best meet the needs of each patient we treat, we offer a diverse curriculum with a focus on both mind and body designed to meet the individual. We treat every patient as an individual and we work with one patient at a time and guide them to a new life in recovery.
