Advocates Launches Amplify - a New Youth Activist Website

Inaugural Campaign: Roe v. Wade Blog-a-thon

WASHINGTON, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Advocates for Youth launches Amplify (www.amplifyyourvoice.org), a new interactive, youth-driven activist website with a week-long blog-a-thon in support of Roe v. Wade, the U.S. landmark decision legalizing abortion. The blog-a-thon, running from January 22-27, can be found at www.amplifyyourvoice.org/roevwade.

Following is a statement by James Wagoner, president of Advocates for Youth:

"While everyone now knows about the central role young people played in the recent election of President Barack Obama, few know how strongly young people supported progressive positions on the various sexual and reproductive health ballot measures around the country. While 52% of Californians voted for Proposition 8, the anti-equal marriage amendment, 61% of young people voted against it. Also, in California, 64% of young people voted against an anti-abortion parental notification amendment. In South Dakota, 60% of youth voted against an abortion ban. In Colorado over 70% voted against a similar anti-abortion measure.

Last November, young people demonstrated their support for reproductive and sexual health rights in this country. That's why we have launched Amplify -- to give that voice visibility and provide a space where young people can help make change. Given their support for abortion rights, the anniversary of Roe v. Wade is a meaningful time to launch this site and to offer young people a new and exciting opportunity to join the debate on how to make America a sexually healthy nation.
