Advocate Named One Of The Nation's Top 10 Health Systems

"Our performance clearly validates Advocate's ongoing efforts to create a true culture of safety and establishes Advocate as a national leader in health outcomes and patient safety."

According to Thomson Reuters, the study sets national benchmarks for quality and efficiency and extends transparency regarding the performance of health care organizations from hospitals to health systems of health care systems' and hospitals' performance.

The study states that if all Medicare inpatients received the same level of care as Medicare patients treated at Advocate or one of the other top 10 health systems:

 
  • More than 47,000 additional patients would survive each year.
  • Nearly 92,000 patient complications would be avoided annually.
  • The average patient stay would decrease by more than half a day.
  • If the same standards were applied to all inpatients, the impact would be even greater.

Advocate was noted for having the lowest score among the top 10 systems in the risk-adjusted complications index category. A lower complications index indicates fewer patients with complications, considering what wo
