Advocate Named One Of The Nation's Top 10 Health Systems

Advocate Health Care has been named one of the nation's top 10 health systems based on clinical performance according to Thomson Reuters, a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare.

Oak Brook, IL (Vocus) August 14, 2009 -- Advocate Health Care has been named one of the nation's top 10 health systems based on clinical performance according to Thomson Reuters, a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare.

Researchers from the Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals® program analyzed the clinical quality and efficiency of 252 health systems in order to develop this inaugural 100 Top Health System National Benchmarks for Quality and Efficiency.

"Our commitment to clinical excellence and patient safety is driven by our focus to perform at the top decile in all quality measures," said Advocate president and CEO, Jim Skogsbergh. "We are honored to be recognized as a leader quality, a vital focus of the health care industry."

The Thomson Reuters study assessed all U.S. health systems with two or more short-term, general, non-federal hospitals. Researchers looked at five metrics that gauge clinical quality and efficiency: mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average length of stay, and adherence to clinical standards of care based on core measures published by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Advocate, and the other top health systems, says the report, are providing higher quality care, with fewer mortalities and patient complications and better adherence to patient safety standards
