Acuity Workflow Solutions(TM) Enhances Medical Case Management Process:
Date:5/27/2008

Craig, Solutions Founder, Joins Schooner Healthcare Consulting Team

ANNAPOLIS, Md., May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Kathy Craig, MS, RN, CCM, a leading thought leader in the case management field, has joined Schooner Healthcare Services (SHS).

"I am delighted that Ms. Craig, architect of the best-in-class caseload workflow application, is joining our firm as Chief Knowledge Officer," notes Mr. Garry Carneal, SHS President and CEO. "Kathy is a pioneer in standardizing acuity and caseload workflows for case and disease management interventions. Her clinical and nursing expertise will be invaluable to Schooner's clients."

Kathy Craig, along with Diane L. Huber, PhD, RN, FAAN, CNAA, BC, published a three-part series last year in the peer-reviewed journal, Professional Case Management, on how "acuity" and "dosage" can support clinical and business needs within various care management settings. This article series was accepted widely by case managers around the country as the seminal work in the field.

Craig adds that "As the healthcare industry continues to evolve, there is an increasing need to provide client-focused solutions. Establishing process, performance, and outcomes instruments based on evidence-based research, validated tools, feedback loops, and standardized workflows is required for the next generation of care management solutions."

Currently, Ms. Craig is working with several nationally known health plans and case management firms to implement her Acuity Workflow Solutions(TM). Among other benefits, she works with companies to engage in a "reflective practice" assessment that enhances the precision and continuity of client caseloads and workflows. Through a dynamic corporate-needs and inter-rater reliability assessment, she coaches companies on how to take their CM operations to the next level. Her solutions generates quality enhancements that lead to caseload equity, ties CM practice to clinical outcomes, and opens up a robust dialogue between the front line case managers, CM supervisors, and business managers. Craig's ACUITY Workflow Solution has improved both the productivity and job satisfaction of case managers in many health care organizations.

Dr. Huber, dual professor in the Colleges of Nursing and Public Health at the University of Iowa, notes "Ms. Craig demonstrates an extremely advanced and knowledgeable depth of expertise in the practical application of complex acuity principles in case management. Her application is a hidden treasure, because she has actually measured acuity and tested the psychometric soundness of her acuity tools over the years. This provides an evidence-based roadmap for how acuity measurement and analysis can improve both case management services and the deployment and management of case managers. To my knowledge, nothing like this had been done before."

Later this year, Ms. Craig's Acuity Workflow Solutions(TM) will be developed into a software application that can be purchased or licensed by a wide-range of companies.

On June 20th, Ms. Craig and Dr. Huber will be presenting on "The Nuts & Bolts of Acuity: What Case Managers Can Build with the Acuity Tool" in conjunction with the Case Management Society of America's (CMSA) 18th Annual Conference & Expo in Orlando, Florida. You can also order a DVD PowerPoint Presentation that provides and overview of Ms. Craig's Acuity Workflow Solutions(TM) directly from Schooner.
