Acting U.S. Surgeon General “Gets Real” with High School and College Students About Pressing Health Concerns and the Role of Humor in Wellbeing, on EICnetwork.tv

The Entertainment Industries Council recently hosted Acting U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Boris Lushniak along with Junior Reporters from West Potomac Academy and George Mason University, for an in-depth discussion of health issues. The one-hour special covering tobacco cessation, sun safety, mental health, suicide prevention, exercise, and other topics, premiers today on the EICnetwork.tv Health & Wellness Channel, produced in cooperation with Internet TV Network, TV Worldwide.

“Look at yourself, look at your friends, make sure you have the connectivity. Suicide results from people feeling disconnected, so take care of yourself, but also take care of those people around you,” Dr. Lushniak commented to a student during a discussion of the National Action Strategy for Suicide Prevention.

In his role, Dr. Lushniak articulates the best available scientific information to the public regarding ways to improve personal health and the health of the Nation. He also oversees the operations of the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps, comprising of approximately 6,700 uniformed health officers who serve in locations around the world to promote, protect, and advance the health and safety of our Nation.

“After the age of 26, no one becomes a smoker, so as a public health guy I know the group I need to emphasize, I know it’s got to be from the age of 12-26, if I can influence that part of the population, its only 14 years, and have them make an empowered decision with all the social media information.
