Accessible Pharmacists Have Great Influence Through OTC Product Recommendations
Date:7/7/2008

PLAINSBORO, N.J., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- As the most trusted and accessible health care providers, pharmacists play a key role in their patients' health and make more than 80 million recommendations to their patients every month-more often than not, patients will follow these recommendations. In fact, a recent survey, conducted by Harris Interactive for the National Council on Patient Information and Education, found that most Americans (80%) would purchase a particular OTC medicine based on their pharmacist's recommendation, or not buy a specific OTC drug if their pharmacist advised against it (82%). Pharmacy Times, the revered pharmacy publication dedicated to providing pharmacists with practical, authoritative information with the ultimate goal of improving patient care, is pleased to provide a concise analysis of the OTC brands pharmacists recommend in the June 2008 issue of Pharmacy Times OTC Survey of Pharmacist Recommendations.

Pharmacy Times has been tabulating pharmacists' recommendations and publishing the Survey of Pharmacist Recommendations for 12 years -- an important resource that is the oldest, continuously running comprehensive supplement of pharmacists' OTC recommendations. Pharmacy Times initially began collecting data in 1997 regarding which OTC brands pharmacists recommended most frequently and how many recommendations pharmacists made per month -- invaluable data for the OTC marketplace that never sleeps.
