AWWA Marks 100th Anniversary of Chlorine Di...( DENVER Sept. 25 -- Sept. 26 2008...),Health

DENVER, Sept. 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Sept. 26, 2008, marks the 100th anniversary of chlorine disinfection in the United States. In 1908, Jersey City, N.J., was the first city in the country to begin routine disinfection of community drinking water. Since then, incidences of waterborne diseases have plummeted, dramatically raising the life expectancy throughout America. AWWA Executive Director Gary Zimmerman offers the following comments on behalf of the American Water Works Association (AWWA).
