from ARVO, will conduct the review and selection process of eligible submissions. AFER will announce recipients of the 2009 awards in conjunction with the ARVO 2009 Annual Meeting (May 3-7). There will be first and second place award grants for each of two categories (glaucoma and back-of-the-eye diseases). The four grants total $70,000.

2010 and beyond:

Beginning in 2010, investigators at the MD, PhD or equivalent doctoral level degree from any part of the world will be invited to apply for the 2011 awards. ARVO will select two research topics and award six grants totaling $70,000.
