ARDS Promotes Awareness with New Campaign

This ARDS Awareness Video video was created generously by Accent Media, in PA, after the creative director lost his beloved mother to ARDS. Accent Media donated their time, expertise and dedication to help create awareness of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS.)

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) July 27, 2009 -- Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) may not be one of the most talked about medical conditions for good reason - it is often misunderstood and misdiagnosed. ARDS Foundation, based in Chicago, aims to educate people about the deadly disease that causes moderate to severe lung function with the launch of a new internet awareness campaign.

"This project has been very rewarding for those of us who have been directly touched by this devastating disease," said Eileen Rubin Zacharias, ARDS Foundation President and co-founder. "To have the support of leading experts from the medical and advertising communities who have also dealt with the effects of the disease is deeply appreciated."

ARDS Foundation teamed with award-winning Accent Media Group to produce a two-part video for viewing on websites such as, YouTube, FaceBook, and MySpace. The first segment serves as a traditional information piece designed to immediately educate people either facing the disease either personally or supporting someone diagnosed with ARDS, explained AMG Chief Creative Officer Chad Gutermuth. According to Gutermuth, the second segment shows the more "personal side" of ARDS by featuring interviews with ARDS Foundation co-founders and leading medical experts in ARDS treatment and research.

"My family was tragically introduced to ARDS last year when the disease claimed my mother as a victim," Gutermuth said. "I know what we went through when we had to deal with a misunderstood deadly disease that nobody seemed to want to - or even knew how to - talk about. ARDS Foundation pulled through for my family in a time of need, so it was great that my 'work family' was in a position to step up to the plate and help promote the Foundations' mission."

Rubin Zacharias said that she envisions the video as an integral tool for the medical community. She hopes that the campaign will serve as a catalyst for discussions about how hospital staffs can better support families battling the disease.

"I know that we will have great results if this campaign can do what we've intended for it to do," Rubin Zacharias. "We're into our first week of the campaign, and we've already received positive comments. We're confident that this will help people over time."
