APR Energy is assisting in the donation of an amazing 100,000 pounds of medical supplies to the devastated country of Haiti. The supplies will be delivered by four air- freighted shipments and are part of APR Energy’s ongoing community service programs.
Jacksonville, FL (PRWEB) February 3, 2010 -- Following the tragedy of the January 12 earthquake in Haiti, many corporations all over the world have been offering their support to the recovery of the nation. APR Energy (APR) is doing its part by teaming up with various non- profit organizations to deliver approximately 100,000 pounds of much needed supplies to Haiti during this time of crisis.
APR Energy is partnering with PROJECT C.U.R.E., a nonprofit humanitarian relief organization that distributes medical supplies, equipment and services globally, as well as the Yéle Haiti Foundation, another charitable organization that reinforces education, health, environmental and community development projects in Haiti, to air- freight shipments of medical supplies into the country. The materials will be delivered specifically to Partners in Health (PIH), a group running the Hospital de L'Universite d'Etat d'Haiti, which experienced severe damage due to the earthquake. The medical supplies including surgical gowns, sterile gloves, and intravenous anesthesia kits, were all collected by PROJECT C.U.R.E. through their overstock medical supplies donation program. On Saturday, January 30, 2010 a team of volunteers from APR Energy and various other companies will fly to Haiti to deliver and distribute cargo containing approximately 25,000 pounds of supplies. The plane, which was donated by Rock-It Cargo, will depart from Opa Locka, located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. In addition to medical supplies, each flight will have the capacity to carry up to 30 doctors, nurses and other volunteer aid workers into the country. Three additional shipments will take place on Feb. 2 and 3.
Once the flight lands at the airport in Haiti, APR Energy in- country employees will coordinate work with the volunteers to distribute the supplies to the Hospital de L'Universite d'Etat d'Haiti. Retired US Navy Capt. Steve Johnson, a consultant for APR Energy, as well as APR Energy Sales & Marketing Coordinator, Libby Owen will be two of the volunteers overseeing the first delivery of disaster relief supplies.
“In the weeks, months and years following this tragedy, it is crucial that relief efforts remain on time and consistent,” said Libby Owen. “The delivery of these supplies will provide hope and comfort to the injured, as well as much needed assistance to the incredible doctors, nurses and volunteers who are saving lives amongst this disaster. I am honored to represent APR and participate in the recovery of Haiti.”
These shipments are not the first charitable donation project that APR Energy has executed for the poverty- stricken country of Haiti. In late 2004, APR Energy worked with PROJECT C.U.R.E. to deliver a package of approximately $350,000 worth of overstock medical supplies to the Hospital de L'Universite d'Etat d'Haiti. APR then donated a back- up generating unit in 2005 to this same hospital while it was experiencing power outages interfering with day to day hospital operations. The 640kW generator that was donated is currently functioning normally, proving a source of emergency electricity to the hospital.
APR Energy has been installing and operating temporary power facilities within Haiti for over six years and at present has over 25 power generation structures, employing approximately 40 individuals in the country.
