BARCELONA, Spain, Oct. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BEAWorld -- BEA Systems (Nasdaq: BEAS), a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced that AP-HM (Assistance Publique -- Hopitaux de Marseille) has chosen BEA WebLogic(R) Integration to support its IT modernization strategy and reengineering initiative designed to cope with the highly-challenging Hospital Reform "Plan Hopital 2007" launched by the French Ministry of Health which aims to modernize public and private hospitals.

As the Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur region's largest Hospital Center and major employer, AP-HM is a large French Public Health Institution supported by the Faculte de Medecine of Marseille, comprised of four hospitals with an aggregate capacity of over 3,500 inpatients.

One primary focus of this modernization initiative was the Hospital Information System (HIS), which had been audited internally and found inconsistent with the organization's future needs -- particularly in terms of patient tracking and monitoring, scalability of the technical architecture; reliability of IT security processes; and interoperability. Moreover, AP-HM's HIS is built on multiple, obsolete applications -- half of it mainframe-based -- and point-to-poin
