Winner of 6th Annual AMN/HCC Scholarship Essay Contest
SAN DIEGO, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- AMN Healthcare and the Health Care Communicators of San Diego (HCC) announced the winner of the 6th Annual AMN/HCC Scholarship Essay Contest.
"I'm extremely honored," said Lazo upon learning of her win. "I am shocked because I didn't think I would actually achieve this. It is such an honor to be recognized by an organization that focuses on healthcare, communication and being active in the community."
Lazo's essay was evaluated by a panel of judges from the organization and AMN who found her essay on volunteerism both compelling and thought provoking. In addition to her essay, Lazo provided recommendations from her school advisor that noted her committee leadership role of the SDSU premedical chapter of the American Medical Students Association. She has also volunteered for Healing Hearts Across the Border, the Ronald McDonald House and the National Kidney Foundation.
Lazo came to the U.S. at the age of 9 and is the first member of her family to attend college in the U.S. After graduating from SDSU later this year, Lazo plans to enter medical school and specialize in pediatrics.
The AMN/HCC Scholarship Essay Contest was developed to foster careers in the healthcare and healthcare communicating industry, which right now is suffering from a growing nursing, physician and allied healthcare shortage in America. Winners of the scholarship must display a true dedication and interest in medicine.
