AMICAS Solutions 'Closing the Loop' in Radiology Communications

AMICAS delivers automation solutions designed to meet underserved needs in

radiology IT

BOSTON, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AMICAS, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMCS), a leader in radiology and medical image and information management solutions, today announced that it will demonstrate a comprehensive solution suite designed to "close the loop" in radiology communications at the 2007 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting from November 25 to 30, 2007, in Chicago, IL. AMICAS will be in booth #2583.

"AMICAS is exclusively focused on providing comprehensive, top-flight radiology automation solutions," said Stephen Kahane MD, chairman and CEO of AMICAS. "At RSNA, we are displaying a suite of solutions ranging from radiology order entry to revenue cycle management that address common radiology communication needs that, historically, have been underserved in the marketplace."

AMICAS is introducing several new products at RSNA, all of which are designed to automate and document radiology processes and facilitate better communications between healthcare providers and their patients, as well as between healthcare providers.

"We see tremendous opportunity to further automate the manual -- or broken -- processes in radiology today," said Rodney Hawkins, vice president of product management at AMICAS. "For example, facilities make significant financial investments in RIS and PACS solutions, only to find their radiologists and other personnel using sticky notes, faxes, and other unreliable methods to communicate important clinical information such as positive findings or new order requests. The lack of true automation for these types of critical communications in traditional systems is astounding."

Examples of innovations that AMICAS is introducing to "close the loop" in radiology communications include:

-- RadStream, which reduces medical/legal risk by automating and

documenting critical results communications. RadStream also automates

the prioritization of imaging exams based on a "most likely to

interrupt" method, which has been shown to dramatically increase

radiologist productivity.

-- Vision Reach, which now offers functionality to simplify the process of

ordering new or follow-up exams through the zero-install Vision Reach

portal, in addition to supporting proactive results distribution.

Vision Reach can help AMICAS customers to grow their businesses by

providing excellent service to their referring physicians.

-- Vision Series PACS, which offers fully personalized workflow, including

the management of communication needs around workflows such as ED

discrepancies and study reservations. Personalized workflow management

makes it possible to create a vast number of custom workflows for

everyone involved in the radiology round trip - thus, improving

productivity and communications.

-- Vision Series Financials, which offers CashFinder technology to

automate the identification and communication requirements associated

with denial management, combines a modern architecture with pioneering

functionality to streamline revenue cycle management. This solution can

have a dramatic impact on reducing costs and increasing collections.

-- Insight Dashboards, which is a Web-based business intelligence

platform, provides access to customized, near real time, easy-to-read

data for key performance metrics and indicators, including both

clinical and operational factors. This solution provides leadership

with excellent visibility into operations.

"AMICAS solutions provide an outstanding infrastructure for servicing the communication and documentation needs of radiology practices and radiology departments," said Dr. Kahane. "We are keenly focused on bringing innovation that truly matters to the market - innovation that will ultimately result in better patient care that is more cost effective."

"Our integrated but modular solutions support an evolutionary move to complete automation that allows our customer partners to get full use and value from their existing investments. In addition, our solutions provide a path to a complete end-to-end solution from one innovative customer-centric partner that is totally focused on radiology automation," said Dr. Kahane.

AMICAS offers a top-flight image management platform for hospitals and an integrated RIS, PACS, document management, and revenue cycle management solution for ambulatory imaging businesses.
