Stredler, Mellon Assume Key Management Posts as Senior Vice Presidents

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AMERIGROUP Corporation (NYSE: AGP) today announced the hiring of three experienced executives to lead the Company in key management positions: Linda Whitley-Taylor has been named Executive Vice President, Associate Services; Jeffrey L. Stredler, Esq. joins AMERIGROUP as Senior Vice President, Senior Litigation Counsel; and William D. Mellon has been named Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications.

Whitley-Taylor assumes the role currently held by AMERIGROUP Executive Vice President, Associate Services Catherine S. Callahan, who joined the Company in 1999 and will retire in the spring.

"We're fortunate to have Linda Whitley-Taylor join AMERIGROUP and expand upon the tremendous infrastructure that Cathy has put into place," said James G. Carlson, AMERIGROUP President and Chief Executive Officer. "Linda is an experienced, dedicated human resources executive who will make great contributions to our continued strategic growth. At the same time, I cannot say enough about the lasting contributions made by Cathy. In particular, I want to thank Cathy for staying on board while we found the best possible successor to execute our vision for the future of AMERIGROUP."

With a 19-year career in the GE organization, Whitley-Taylor joins AMERIGROUP from Genworth Financial, where she served as Senior Vice President, Human Resources Operations at the company's Richmond, Va., headquarters. In addition to her international experience, Whitley-Taylor has significant expertise in talent development and people strategy initiatives and is a Six Sigma Master Black Belt. In her role with AMERIGROUP, she will report directly to Carlson as a member of the Company's senior executive team.

Stredler and Mellon enter newly created positions. Stredler reports to Stanley F. Baldwin, AMERIGROUP Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. Mellon reports to John E. Littel, Executive Vice President, External Relations.

"Jeff Stredler and Bill Mellon both are outstanding professionals and veteran leaders who have distinguished themselves within their areas of expertise," Carlson said. "What's important for AMERIGROUP -- and those audiences we serve -- is that we are adding key executives who will contribute to our ability to grow both internally and externally."

As Senior Vice President, Senior Litigation Counsel, Stredler will be responsible for assisting the Company with legal matters. Prior to joining AMERIGROUP, he was a partner at the law firm of Williams Mullen, where he served as co-chair of litigation for the firm's Norfolk, Va., office. Stredler received both his undergraduate degree and his law degree from the University of Virginia.

As Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, Mellon will oversee all aspects of the Company's communications efforts, reaching not only its 4,200 employees and more than 1.7 million members, but also the additional audiences increasingly relying on AMERIGROUP as a leader in the field of caring for the financially vulnerable, seniors and people with disabilities. Previously, Mellon was Managing Director of Corporate Communications for Northwest Airlines. Prior to Northwest, Mellon served as Vice President, Public Relations with the former Rockwell International Corporation and earlier as a regional Public Relations Director with The Boeing Company in Seattle.
