EDISON, N.J., Oct. 13, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- The AMERIGROUP Foundation today announced a contribution in support of the School for Children with Hidden Intelligence (SCHI) to enhance the organization's vocational training program.
SCHI is a state-approved, private school that specifically educates multiply handicapped, underprivileged children with special needs from throughout New Jersey. Its aim is to try and alleviate the suffering of the most vulnerable members of the community. SCHI offers educational and therapeutic services by certified professional staff to children who have disabilities as varied as autism, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy. It places great emphasis on maintaining a low teacher-to-pupil ratio, along with individualized educational programs, designed to fit each child's specific needs.
The AMERIGROUP Foundation's $5,000 contribution will help to enhance SCHI's transition program whose goal is to continue to provide special needs adolescents with the necessary skills to be productive citizens within their communities. With that focus, SCHI has developed and continues to improve a collaborative model involving teachers, therapists, parents, family members and community business whereby students obtain the indispensable skills and emotional support necessary for them to experience lasting vocational and personal success in their adult lives.
"We greatly appreciate the continued partnership between SCHI and AMERIGROUP," said Captain Mark A. Seigel, MBA, SCHI's Executive Director. "AMERIGROUP's foresight, generosity and kindness in support of our special needs children will have an immediate and lasting effect on their continued growth."
"AMERIGROUP is proud to support SCHI's programs and honors their strong commitment to meeting the needs of special needs children throughout the State," said John E. Littel, AMERIGROUP Foundation Chairman.
