Funds to Support the Operations of Grady Memorial Hospital
ATLANTA, Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The AMERIGROUP Foundation announced today that it has donated $100,000 to the Henry W. Grady Health System Foundation. The funds will be used to support the work of Grady Memorial Hospital, which plays a pivotal role in bringing healthcare to many low-income and uninsured Georgia residents.
The AMERIGROUP Foundation is affiliated with AMERIGROUP Community Care of Georgia, a care management organization that serves 218,000 financially vulnerable Georgians who are enrolled in the State of Georgia's Georgia Families program. Grady Memorial Hospital is a crucial part of AMERIGROUP Community Care's medical network and cares for AMERIGROUP's members on a daily basis.

In 2006, the AMERIGROUP Foundation awarded the Henry W. Grady Health System Foundation two grants that totaled $100,000. With today's award, the AMERIGROUP Foundation has donated a total of $200,000 to Grady over the past two years.
Grady Health System is one of the largest public health systems in the United States - and includes Grady Memorial Hospital, nine neighborhood health centers, the only level . trauma center in the region and the largest nursing facility in the state, Crestview Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Grady's trauma center treats about 3,700 seriously injured patients a year -- an average of more than 10 every day - and its ambulances make more than 90,000 trips every year. In 2006, about 600 babies were born at Grady. On an average day, the hospital is caring for about 30 infants.
AMERIGROUP Community Care, which began operations in Georgia in 2006, helps its members avoid unnecessary illness by identifying conditions that are common among people who are financially vulnerable, such as asthma and diabetes, and connecting them with preventive health programs. AMERIGROUP offers disease management programs for 11 different conditions, ranging from asthma and diabetes to AIDS and schizophrenia.
