Students from Toms River Win Prizes in Annual Essay Contest
TOMS RIVER, N.J., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The AMERIGROUP Foundation today announced the winners of the annual "WORD About Health" Contest during a special luncheon at the Holiday Inn in Toms River, N.J. The contest challenged students enrolled in Toms River intermediate schools to submit essays, poems or rap lyrics that best communicate their understanding of nutrition and drug-free living. Over 1,900 students submitted an entry in this year's contest.
A total of seven winners were announced, and prizes for the top essays
included an 80-Gigabyte iPod for the grand prize, a 4-Gigabyte iPod Nano
for second place and a 1-Gigabytes iPod Shuffle for third place. This
year's WORD About Health winners are:
Grand Prize: Alexa Tanzi, grade 7, Toms River Intermediate North
2nd Place: Kristina Malmstrom, grade 7, Toms River Intermediate North
Griphin Fletcher, grade 6, Toms River Intermediate South
Nicholas Ashkenis, grade 7, Toms River Intermediate East
3rd Place: Jacob Kupferberg, grade 7, Toms River Intermediate North
Kayla Harney, grade 8, Toms River Intermediate South
Brittany Duerr, grade 8, Toms River Intermediate East
"These students understand the importance of healthy living and it showed in their entries," said Adam Mintz, AMERIGROUP Community Care Vice President, Sales and Marketing - Multi Plan. "This contest is a great way to spread the word about good nutrition and drug-free living; plus it encourages the participants to express themselves in writing, which is always a positive exercise for middle school students."
