AMERIGROUP Community Care Provides 'Doctor's Office Makeover' in Houston
Date:12/4/2007

Through 'Together We Grow' Effort, Insurer Completes Renovation of Local

Pediatrician's Office

HOUSTON, Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- AMERIGROUP Community Care in Texas has completed its first-ever "Doctor's Office Makeover" for pediatrician Dr. Muhammad Shaikh at the Bissonet Medical Center in Houston. The project was part of a local "Together We Grow" initiative that AMERIGROUP Community Care sponsored for the area's physicians and its providers.

Dr. Shaikh's office was selected at random among the many physicians who serve the same populations as AMERIGROUP, often the financially vulnerable, seniors and people with disabilities. As part of the makeover process, AMERIGROUP Community Care employees pressure-washed the walls, re-painted the office, added a television set and chairs in the waiting area, and hung posters to decorate the facility.

"Everything looks really good," Dr. Shaikh said. "This is a great project. It definitely shows that AMERIGROUP is involved in caring for the community and committed to providers and members. It's great to get some help, especially when doctors don't have a lot of time to devote to this. I want to say thank you to AMERIGROUP for helping us out."

"I think a project like this is a terrific experience for everyone involved," said Aileen McCormick, AMERIGROUP's Regional Chief Executive Officer who oversees the Company's Houston health plan. "Aside from the benefit to the doctor's office and the people he sees, our associates got a real boost from participating and witnessing the results of their work in the community. As soon as the idea was mentioned, our employees jumped on board, and their effort has paid off in a very tangible way. This kind of positive impact on our community truly represents the essence of what we seek to do at AMERIGROUP."
