ACS webinar features tips for finding and building a career in the food and flavor industries

WASHINGTON, Feb. 2, 2010 News media and others interested in the chemical sciences are invited to join the next in a series of American Chemical Society (ACS) Webinars, Your Career Matters! featuring speakers that address a variety of pertinent career topics impacting science and engineering professionals.

Scheduled for Thursday, Feb.11, 2 3 p.m. Eastern Time, the free webinar will feature Carolyn Fisher, Regulatory Manager at McCormick & Company, speaking on "Love Food as well as Chemistry? How to Find and Build a Career in the Food and/or Flavor Industries."

The ACS Webinar Series connects you with subject experts and global thought leaders in chemical sciences, management, and business to addresses current topics of interest to scientific and engineering professionals. Each webinar includes a short presentation followed by a Q & A session.

News media and scientists can tune into the conference without charge, but must register in advance.

Fisher's topics will include:

  • Why life-long learning as well as understanding yourself is important to defining career goals.
  • What type of positions chemists have taken in the food or flavor industries.
  • Where to find training in food science or food regulations.
  • How to develop skills and network for a career in the food or flavor Industries.

Fisher received her B.S. from Wayne State University and Ph.D. from Stanford University. She was a research chemist at Kalsec, continued her work on the isolation of bioactive components of spices and herbs at the University of Delaware, and wrote the book, Food Flavours: Biology & Chemistry. Fisher joined McCormick & Company in 1996 as a quality assurance manager for industrial flavor products and became a regulatory manager in 2005. She has developed a training program for regulatory professionals in the U. S. Industrial Group at McCo
