WASHINGTON, April 5, 2010 News media and others interested in the chemical sciences are invited to join the next in a series of American Chemical Society (ACS) Webinars, Your Career Matters! featuring speakers that address a variety of pertinent career topics impacting science and engineering professionals.
Scheduled for Thursday, April 8, 2 3 p.m. Eastern Time, the free webinar will feature Susan Butts, Senior Director of External Science & Technology Programs at The Dow Chemical Company, speaking on "Creating a Successful Career in Public Policy and the Chemical Industry Lessons Not Taught in Classrooms."
The ACS Webinar Series connects you with subject experts and global thought leaders in chemical sciences, management, and business to addresses current topics of interest to scientific and engineering professionals. Each webinar includes a short presentation followed by a Q & A session.
News media and scientists can tune into the conference without charge, but must register in advance.
Butts' topics will include:
Butts is responsible for Dow's sponsored research programs at over 100 universities, institutes, and national laboratories worldwide and also for Dow's contract research activities with U.S. and European government agencies. She works on issues related to science policy and government funding for research and development from Dow's office in Washington, DC. She has held several positions in Dow R&D, both as individual investigator and research manager, since joining the company in 1979. Butts is the past president of the University-Industry Demonstration Partnership in the National Academies and a member of the governing boards of the Council for Chemical Research and the Alliance for Science and Technology Research in America. She is also Dow's representative to the ACS Committee on Corporation Associates.
