ABQAURP Renews Agreement with the National Board of Medical Examiners to Oversee Testing Methodology

ABQAURP Celebrates 15 Year Relationship with NBME and Announces

International Health Care Quality Certification Program

TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, Inc. (ABQAURP) is pleased to announce the organization has renewed its agreement with the National Board of Medical Examiners(R) (NBME(SM)) to oversee and administer ABQAURP's professional certification exam in Health Care Quality Management and Patient Safety.

ABQAURP, an independent non-profit organization, has certified over 9,400 physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals through its ultimate goal to improve the quality of our nation's health care. For the past 15 years, ABQAURP's examination methodology has undergone rigorous review by the NBME.

Arthur Broder, MD, CHCQM, Chair of ABQAURP Board of Directors noted, "ABQAURP is the only entity that offers a certification examination for clinical and non-clinical health care professionals in medical management, risk management, and quality-based knowledge that is overseen by the NBME. We are pleased to work with the NBME, whose assessment programs follow a sound developmental model and incorporate the latest statistical and technological developments."

The NBME, an independent, not-for-profit organization, was founded in 1915 in response to a need for a voluntary, nationwide examination that medical licensing authorities could accept as a standard for judging candidates for medical licensure. NBME supports the development, administration, and analysis of ABQAURP's Health Care Quality Management and Patient Safety Exam and more than 50 other examination programs for certification, recertification, in-training, self-assessment, or evaluation of special competence.

Broder elaborates further that, "The ABQAURP certification examination in quality management and patient safety is systematically reviewed by NBME's consultative, research, and analytic services. New questions are tested (but not scored) for over a year to identify and resolve potential methodological problems before formal inclusion in the examination. This reflects ABQAURP's dedication to establishing Health Care Quality Management as a specialty with definable standards upheld by knowledgeable experts."

"Physicians and other health care professionals throughout the world are now eligible to sit for ABQAURP's professional certification examination," noted Joel V. Brill, MD, CHCQM, CME Chair for ABQAURP. "With the global focus on value-based health care and quality management, we encourage health care professionals worldwide to prepare for the same comprehensive examination as their North American colleagues to earn the CHCQM (Certified in Health Care Quality Management) credential and be recognized for their commitment to care."

Nick Paslidis, MD, MPH, CHCQM, President and CEO of Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care stated, "I have been involved with ABQAURP for more than ten years and have found their certification standards utilizing the NBME testing services to be excellent. ABQAURP is the only health care quality management organization of which I am aware that uses NBME services for its certification exam program. I trust the results."
